Official Launch of the Penang Feasibility Study for the Collection of Films and Flexible Plastic Packaging

In 2022, the Penang State Government embarked on a study to evaluate practices and behaviors in the collection of films and flexible plastic packaging, with the goal of establishing an economic and environmentally preferred pathway for recycling as a step to grow the circular economy and provide a model for other communities. The project was led by the Penang Green Council and Resource Recycling Systems, and financial support was provided by The Circulate Initiative, Fonterra, Thong Guan Industries Berhad, and FFM Berhad.

The Circulate Initiative’s Research Director, Umesh Madhavan, attended the official launch of the study alongside participating stakeholders, where he gave a speech on his hopes for the partnership and the value of collaborative efforts to tackle plastic waste.
