The negotiation process for the global plastics treaty was launched in 2022 with the goal of addressing the plastic pollution crisis. During the recent technical workshop “Bridging Perspectives Towards the Global Plastics Treaty,” The Circulate Initiative’s Research Director, Umesh Madhavan, spoke on the critical need for substantial global investment to effectively combat plastic pollution. His insights reinforced the importance of financial resources in achieving the global plastics treaty’s goals.
This workshop was organized by Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) and the Pacific Environment Organization (PE), building on prior consultation workshops, highlighting Vietnam’s commitment to the negotiation process.
