Global plastics framework promotes right of waste pickers

A harmonised framework has been launched to promote sustainability in the recycled plastics sector and the rights of waste pickers.

The framework was produced by the Responsible Sourcing Initiative (RSI), which campaigns in the waste plastics sector, an initiative of ocean plastics campaign, the Circulate Initiative.

It was produced with input from 40 organisations, including waste picker companies, investors, recycling companies and civil society organisations.

The document states: “The launch of the framework comes at a critical time, with ongoing negotiations to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution and the marine environment.
