Informal Workers in Indonesia Can Collect 1 Million Tons of Waste Per Year

Informal workers in the waste sector in Indonesia play an important role in managing plastic waste. According to data from the World Economic Forum 2020, these workers are responsible for collecting around one million tons of waste per year. In 2025, the Indonesian government is targeting a 30 percent reduction in waste and a 70 percent reduction in plastic waste in the sea. This figure is an ambitious target that cannot be achieved without the contribution of the informal sector.
